Farewell Miss Renee

Farewell Miss Renee! We Will Miss You!

Miss Renee will be leaving us Wednesday, July 25th to teach 4th grade in Fredricksburg,VA. She has been a teacher here at Perry in the Red Room, where some of our three year-old’s are placed. I tracked down Renee during her break, and asked a few questions, here are her responses:

What will you miss most about Perry?
“The Red Room and all my little darlings in it!”

What is your favorite memory of your classroom?
“All the hugs I get every morning when I walk into the room.”

What did you enjoy most about working at a non-profit, as opposed to working in a public school?
“I know everyday no matter what, the children and parents absolutely need me.”

We will miss you Miss Renee, and we wish you the best of luck teaching your new children! They will be fortunate to have you as their teacher and friend!

"Ocean In Motion"

The theme for this week at Camp Perry is "Ocean in Motion." The Children took a trip to Aqua-Tec Engineers, in Ann Arbor, where the children viewed fish and other aquatic life in the aquariums.

The children made fish of their own, and stories to go along with them.

In The Week Ahead...

"Animal House"
July 23rd- 27th

The Theme for next week is "Animal House" at Camp Perry! The children will be taking a field trip to Maybury Farm! Be sure to check back for updates.

Why I love Perry Reason of the Week...

(pictured above: Chef Kelly with her famous lasagna!)
Kelly Masey! She is our chef here at Perry. She prepares daily breakfast, lunch and snacks for the children and staff. Kelly prepares meals according to specific nutritional guidelines and has fun in the process!

When I first came to Perry, I expected meals of hot dogs, fish sticks and pizza. Who knew I would be eating stir-fry, quiche (kee-sh), tuna pasta salad and cheesy potato soup! Every meal is delicious, and it amazes me how quickly she prepares a meal for 90 children and 18 staff. I have a hard enough time cooking for any more than myself!

What really makes Kelly special? Her constant upbeat personality, and positive attitude combine with her great sense of humor to make every workday a great one!
Thanks Kelly for all that you do!

Summer Camp In Full-Swing!

Tuesday, July 10, 2007
"Out of This World!"

Perry's Summer Camp provides week-long, themed programs. This week was, "Out of This World." The children took a field trip to the UofM Exhibit Museum where they learned about space, dinosaurs, Native Americans and my personal favorite, rocks and minerals.

Of course the dinosaurs were the main attraction for the children

After visiting the museum, the children made their own "out of this world" creations!

Perry Garden Project!

Update! Can you believe the garden is already producing veggies?

Look! The beans are growing! The children are doing a great job taking care of the garden, and now their hard work is producing real results.

When I went outside to speak to one of the teachers, Miss Kristine, she had a small cup in her hand full of yellow beans. The children were gathered around her glowing from excitement about seeing the beans grow from their garden.

The tomato plants are growing rapidly too!

Why I Love Perry Reason of the Week...

Sometimes it's the simplest things in this world that can turn a bad day into a great day- for me it's dancing. Dancing has never been one of my strengths. The beauty of children is they just don't care how good or bad they are at anything, they will give it their all regardless. Today, Heavenly came in the office and told me downstairs was a 60's party, and that the children were doing the twist. I had to see for myself.

When I arrived downstairs, the twist was over, but "Wolly Bully" was blasting from the speakers of an un-seen radio. My smile grew into laughter as I watched the children dance. They each had a signature move- moves that I could never re-create even if I practiced.
